I am an avid player of video games. I love computer games, console games, hand held games, you name it, I've played it. I grew up on Playstation 1 and 2, and now have an Xbox 360. I play after school, and on the weekends, I love video games. But every adult I've ever met always tells me one thing: Video Games are bad
Personally, I'm quite offended by this. Video games have given me something to do in my spare time (oppose to other things, say, drinking?), and they have really shown me a new view on life about determination to achieve the goals you want. I think this is an amazing invention - fun, safety, and learning all in one.
But adults think other wise. I've heard adults say that 'More video games = worse grades!', or 'Playing video games aren't good for you're health!'. I think that all of this is wrong. I have been a B+ - A+ student my entire life, and I have always been at the exact, or lower weight limit for my age. Guess what - I play a ton of video games, everyday!
My theory on this 'Video games are bad thing' is simply an excuse to make kids do what parents want. Honestly, I think kids should do whatever they want, or whatever makes them happy. Video games have NEVER negatively effected me, and I am as happy as can be while playing them.
The key word here is efficiency. The idea that most people have about gamers is that they are all lazy and stupid. This is very untrue. Being a successful gamer is an accomplishment. Balancing health, school, and friends all while playing a good amount of video games is not easy to do. I will say that most video games do not require a very high IQ to play, but for any professional gamer you must have quick reflexes, mentally and physically. You must also know how to plan ahead, and be able to keep you're cool while doing all of this. Being a gamer is not some luxurious adventure where everything is given to you on a silver platter, you do have to determination and diligence to accomplish what you want.
In conclusion I think that video games should be played at will. There are no issues with professionally gaming, if anything they help. I think gamers should be respected just as much as everyone else.
100% true!:)
